Terms of Service
Effective September 15, 2026
The short version: what you see before you pay is a draft, built by software. It becomes a reviewed, filed return only after you pay and a licensed CPA reviews and files it. The full terms are below.
1. What Cofiled is
Cofiled ("Cofiled," "we," "us") prepares and files tax returns. Software builds a draft of your return from the documents you send and the answers you give. If you decide to file, a licensed CPA reviews your return and files it. These terms are the agreement between you and Cofiled. By using cofiled.com, you agree to them.
2. Drafts are drafts
Until you pay to file and a licensed CPA reviews and files your return, everything you see on Cofiled is a draft. Drafts are produced by software, without professional review. A draft may be incomplete or wrong: a document may be read incorrectly, a tax treatment may not apply to your situation, a form or deduction may be missing, and any refund or balance shown may change.
A draft is not tax advice, not a filed return, and not a promise of any outcome. Do not file a draft yourself, submit it to any tax authority, or make financial decisions based on it. We have no obligation to review, check, correct, complete, or preserve a draft you have not paid to file.
3. What filing includes
When you pay and ask us to file, a licensed CPA reviews your return before it is filed. The CPA may ask you for more documents or answers and may change numbers that appeared in your draft. Our professional review applies only to returns we actually file. If we cannot complete and file your return, we will refund your filing fee. We may also choose, for any reason, to refund your filing fee instead of filing. If we refund your fee, that refund is the whole of what we owe you for that return.
4. What filing does not include
Filing does not include audit representation, responding to IRS or state notices, or tax planning advice. If you receive a notice about a return we filed, contact us and we will help you understand your options.
5. Free to start, no obligation until you pay
Starting is free and requires no payment card. We may decline to prepare any return that is outside what we support, and we may close drafts that sit inactive. Declining or closing a draft is not a breach of these terms.
6. Your responsibilities
You agree that the documents and information you give us are yours to share, genuine, and complete; that you will answer our questions honestly; and that you will read your return before telling us to file it. Your taxes, and any interest or penalties on them, are yours. If a filed return is wrong because of information you gave us, or information you left out, that is not a failure of our review.
7. Price
Filing costs $99 per return, federal and state together, charged once, when you choose to file. The price shown to you at payment is the price you pay. We may change pricing for future returns.
8. Your documents, our software
Your documents and your returns are yours. You give us permission to store and process them in order to serve you, as described in our Privacy Policy. The Cofiled software and website are ours, and these terms give you no rights in them beyond using the service.
9. Limits on our liability
The service is provided as-is for anything you have not paid for. To the fullest extent the law allows, our total liability to you is limited to the amounts you paid us in the twelve months before the claim, and we are not liable for indirect, incidental, or consequential damages, including lost refunds you were never entitled to. Nothing in these terms limits liability that cannot be limited by law, or the professional obligations of the CPA who files your return.
10. Ending and changing
You can stop using Cofiled at any time, for any reason. We can suspend or end service at any time, for any reason. If we end service after you have paid and before your return is filed, we will refund your filing fee. We may update these terms; if a change is material, we will flag it, and continuing to use the service after a change means you accept it.
11. Law and contact
These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Washington, without regard to its conflict-of-laws rules. Questions about these terms: hello@cofiled.com.
